Why you shouldn’t cut down trees!

I am going to tell you why you shouldn’t cut trees because people are cutting down too many trees!

Firstly, cutting down trees is bad. Also if you cut down trees, there will be bad air because inside them there are carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide and other gases are taken by the trees and if it mixes with the good air, it will become bad for the people. Trees also release oxygen and we need oxygen to breathe in. Secondly, the air is going to be dirty and the environment is going to be worse and the water will be mixed up with the dirty air. Also many animals will become extinct because they need the trees to survive.

20170817_154031.jpg
You can also use trees to climb and GoApe!

Everyone  will get ill and global warming will happen, then many people might die. I predict that maybe they have cut over 1,500 trees or may be more. We need your help to save the environment  so everything will be back to normal. And I mean it, please can you help us!

If you help us you will  be able to breath properly and you won’t get ill. If you don’t want to die, don’t cut trees! However, global warming makes you very hot  and you want to get  hot and sweaty every day, do you?

Finally, if we can have our environment nice to breath in, we will be able to breathe in good air and  we will be able to stay  healthy because there will be no bad air. Search more on google why you shouldn’t cut down trees.

Preparing for SATs!

Hello!

I am going to talk about my time at Year 6 and preparation for SATs. I have been getting a lot of homework keeping me very busy. Subjects that I will have to study hard are English [reading & writing], grammar, punctuation & spellings, and maths. My favourite subject has actually become arithmetic as I didn’t like maths before! I am still better at English though (I think).

If you want to do well in SATs you need to do bit of revising and you need to make sure you finish your homework regularly. (I don’t think your teacher would be too happy if you didn’t do any of your homework!) In the Easter holidays, just a few weeks before the SATs most schools have Easter booster. All the teachers from Year 6 come and help us with the things we are struggling on and what we need to get good at while we are on our way to doing the SATs. The teachers told me it’s a very fun few sessions and every year everyone actually loves it. I can see why as only the Year 6 have the entire playground to themselves and that is good news for people who like playing football and having more space for games because normally everyone has to  share the playground!

Anyway, you will need to get organised and get good at the subjects you are doing. The way to do this is to make sure you listen to what your teacher says and use all the time you have. It’s not just about the marks you get but it’s also about what you have learnt at school and how you have improved from when you did the SATs in Year 2. It would also prepare you for secondary school where things will be a lot harder and you may need to know the things that you will have learnt for the SATs. Like when you are doing a maths problem and you have to add a few numbers up to do the question. In arithmetic, it makes you practice a lot on adding and subtracting.

Back to getting organised. Don’t leave your homework lying around your room and make sure you have a timetable so you can get it done. I normally keep everything either in my bag or in a box where I have a few extra things I will need to get me a few marks up. The other thing to do is to do a little bit of each subject everyday rather than loading it all on yourself in one go. For example, do a bit of reading, a bit of grammar and a bit of maths!

After all this, you do get a big, long break. It would be nearly the summer holidays and we would be taking down the things on the walls and going out to parks and there is of course the school residential to look forward to!

Yes, year 6 is is a lot about exams but it’s about having fun and making the most of your primary school. Go on, have fun and work hard!2018-08-11 19.11.12.jpg

About the Avengers

There are many avengers and some are called Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Antman and the Wasp. Also there is Thor and Captain America. The marvel comics have the avengers in them and they are superheroes. I am writing about this blog  because I love avengers.

I am going to write about two avengers and they are my favourite.

20190318_213704

Iron Man

Iron Man is an American and he is very rich. He is also called Tony Stark. He was kidnapped and had a chest injury. He didn’t build a weapon and he built a powered suit of armour to save his life. Did you know Iron Man has two hearts?

Captain America

Captain America is actually the man called Steve Rogers, a skinny and weak man. But he took a  serum in a machine so he could make America win world war II. Captain Rogers became Captain America after that. He has a shield so he could block and defend.

Conclusion

Avengers try to fight powerful enemies. Some of the enemies’ names are Thanos and Red Skull. If you search for more information about avengers you will have a lot of fun.

I Have a Dream

This is my dream speech for the future.

I have a dream one day different people around the world will have oak trees in their gardens reminding them of their strong bonds of brotherhood.

I have a dream for countries and cities to smell of flowers and not of tobacco, petrol and gas.

I have a dream that every citizen will play the drums in tune and respect each other’s rights.

I have a dream for children and adults alike to experience the taste of a fresh and juicy apple so that no one gets hungry.

I have a dream that materials of clothing and blankets will be soft and comfortable for every person who is homeless.

Exploring King Richard III

20181230_131924
I am pretending to dig using a mini spade like an archaeologist

During the Christmas holiday, I travelled with my family to Leicester and visited King Richard III Centre. We travelled by car and we went on the motor way. On the way, we got off at a  service station and we had breakfast.

When we got to Leicester, we saw lots of shops near the centre. It took 2 hours to get to Leicester and I felt very cold when we got there.

King Rickard III was the king of England from 1483 to 1485. The bit that was really interesting was that he had a really big family as he had 13 brothers and sisters. He was buried in a church and archaeologists dug him up and found him after 500 years! He also died in a battle in 1485 fighting King Henry VII.

I know other facts, so if you want to know more about King Richard III, please ask me.

Speak to the world!

1024814-simpsons-creator-matt-groening-sued-domestic-lawsuitHello again!

I’m back with another blog for you to enjoy and possibly encourage you to do more of and take to the next level. I’m going to write about my first day at a few debating lessons I had. If you have read any of my other blogs, I said in one of them that I would come back to talking about my debating classes and I always keep a promise. Okay! Now I will share with you my first day at my debating lessons.

My Recount of My Debating Lessons

In October, I started going to debating classes. I had only four of them and they are still going on now. If you continue to read, I will share a few basic tips that I learnt in my time there and what I experienced on my first day.

On my first day, I was very nearly late due to transport closure and ghastly weather. It was raining cats and dogs which slowed my brother, my mum and my dad down. We were aiming to go by train but because it was closed, we had to go by bus and then train. Eventually, I arrived at South Kensington and the last thing that I had to do was a rather long walk to Imperial College, part of the University of London. I am told, it is one of the top universities in London! As it is in the city area, it was a busy place to be rushing to a place we had never been to and finding the place was very tricky because Imperial is very big and has lots of parts to it (called campuses I think).

In the end, I got there at just the right time and had settled myself down before the teacher had spoken to the whole class. Hardly anybody knew who was who, so as any class would do, we had to all introduce ourselves. We were all given sheets of paper to write a few things about ourselves. After a few minutes of doing that, we all had to say it out to the 14 -15 children in the class. I shared my name, my favourite food and that I am a scout.

Each Saturday I went, we had a different teacher. The first one I had was called Doctor B. McDonald. I forgot what his first name is but I know that it begins with the letter ‘B’. The first part was a bit of role play where Dr. McDonald and another volunteer pretended they were in a lift. We talked about different feelings and personal space and also how the other person may not want to speak to you but how facial expressions can express those different feelings. We were then told to draw different faces and write down the feelings of them beneath. This second part had a bit more writing involved. We picked a topic [I chose the environment] and wrote about how either it is a problem or if it should be banned. I said that the environment is not being looked after properly and is causing a problem to society and the wildlife (and to the world as a whole). I felt that this was a good topic because there is a lot to talk about and many points can be made, disagreed about and agreed about. To give us a bit of a boost, we read the ‘I Have a Dream’ speech by Martin Luther King to write our own speeches. We had to include a few things that he used and add it to our speech. With that, my first day was done. You can read some of my debating tips below!

I hope you enjoyed that and if you want anymore, be sure to write a comment below. Also, if you have any other ideas for me to write about include that too.

TIPS:

  • Speak as clearly and loudly as you can
  • Be sure to state your point clearly
  • Make it sound persuasive
  • Go with a positive attitude
  • Don’t make it sound boring.
  • Make it sound strong and as though you really believe your point should be heard.

[If you want, to keep the audience engaged, include a funny bit or two.]

Dinosaurs and why I like them and facts about them

I’m writing this blog because I am interested in dinosaurs. I learnt about dinosaurs at the natural history museum, school and the books I have at home. I was first interested in dinosaurs when I was  about  two. Dinosaurs lived 165 million years ago and they died because meteorites fell on the earth and it blocked the sun and the dinosaurs ate plants that were bad. This blog is about three dinosaurs that are my favourite.

I  like Allosaurus  because  they are scary and I  like scary dinosaurs. A fact is  that  Allosaurus is a meat-eater. It sometimes  tries to scare off other Allosauruses.

Now I  am going  to  move  on  to   Oviraptors . I like Oviraptors  because they’re  cheeky   and I  am cheeky!  A fact  is that Oviraptors liked to steal other dinosaur eggs. Did  you know that  a person  is  bigger than an Oviraptor?

Next I am  going to move on to Gigantoraptors. I like Gigantoraptors  because  I  like  big dinosaurs and Gigantoraptors are

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

big. A fact about Gigantoraptors  is  that  they stay on  their eggs for 80 days and a person can’t stay on there for that long. My next  fact is that Gigantoraptor is  very very big.

I hope you liked my blog about dinosaurs. Please ask me any questions about them and I will let you know more facts.

Why I should go to my school residential

Hello!

Today I’m going to write a persuasive letter addressed to my parents so they would allow me to join the school residential. This school journey is to the Isle of Wight in June 2019 and I obviously really want to go with my friends in my year group! It would be the most amazing trip to be doing a range of activities with them.

If you want to go to an outdoor journey overnight or you want to persuade someone to allow you to have a pet [or something of that sort] then read on to maybe achieve some inspiration….

Dear mum and dad,

I am writing to request your permission to go to the Isle of Wight school residential next year. Understanding that you will [of course] need reasons and persuasion to allow me to attend this without you, I have taken my time to write a letter explaining why I should be allowed to go. Hoping for a truly fantabulous, amazing and altogether fun time, I write to beseech you desperately but hopefully you will be convinced by my very convincing points.

Firstly, I should [would like to] attend my school residential to the Isle of Wight because this will help my communication skills. I would most likely be working with different groups, people and genders. I will also have to show teamwork and co-operation and try to be myself.  For example, the abseiling and climbing. Sometimes, you pick a partner and the climber is being bee-layed by the other person. The bee layer is the person who pulls a rope to help you climb. You will need to communicate with each other and when you want to get down, the other person needs to hear you to pull you down. Another way that will help me develop this skill is teamwork like tug of war! You never know what I might do and tug of war may be one of them. In this activity, everybody in your team need to share tips with each other and make sure that everyone knows what they’re doing. The aim is to pull as hard as you can with a rope and pull until you reach over a certain point. With this, your teammates need to be in a certain order and encouragement will need to be put in as well. While you are pulling and heaving, there will definitely be a lot of shouting and so that makes it harder for everyone to concentrate. That would mean that you need to make sure that everybody knows beforehand what they need to do to win. I won’t be a sheep following other people in the wrong way but I will make sure I’m loud enough for people to hear me and make sure I really get involved into the different games and activities. This would be an opportunity to put my debating lessons (more about that another day) to use! I implore you to allow me to attend because when I grow up, and go to work, I will probably need to talk and mix with other people.

Secondly, I will show my knowledge of safety and get better at it. As I will be with my school teachers and fellow pupils, the staff will not only be looking at me, but possibly over 60 children! I will show you and believe me I will, that I can listen to my teachers, follow the golden rules [(1) listen carefully to others] and be mature enough to go on a residential with my school, without my family as a year 6 student [ in my opinion, that sounds important]. The maturity bit I can show you over the next few months through my effort in my education and when I visit other people. This can be when I have to give in my homework, you can check to see I am improving and not just rushing through it. You will know if I have been safe when I come home with any broken limbs, any calls home to say I’d been in an accident or a stern word from my teacher saying I misbehaved badly. This I’m sure you do not want to hear! I urge you to read attentively to everything I am saying here or you will not be able to make your final decision. This is as important a decision as a normal old residential when you are going with a parent. Is it not?

Thirdly, [yes I have yet another reason] I will be enjoying it while I’m there and thinking about how other people can’t have this. Not many people have this kind of fantastic opportunity. The fun bit would probably be with my friends and when we spend the whole day just letting of steam and letting the adrenaline in me flow out. It could be anything that I can have fun doing like building a raft and putting it on water. I know lots of people love that and I know because I’ve been on it myself! Although I have been on  residentials before, it will be an even bigger opportunity if I am able to go to this one. I am sure you don’t want me to come home all sad and mopey. Won’t it sadden you too? Surely you want me to come home with my face as bright as the sun full of stories to tell and joys to bring? This all leads to a bit of FUN! Every child has a right to have some fun and be free once or twice everyday. It is an important part of our health to be outside and running free. Nobody has a right to say that we can’t. It would be like breaking the law. I’m being as honest as a meerkat who is coming to report back to it’s pack here because it is a very serious matter. Rights are important and should not be said no to! On top of that, you don’t want me to bottle up my childish energy and unleash it in very important places or when I visit other people do you? That will be quite embarrassing for you and leave me with a miserable face.

In my opinion, these are all very significant and thought out reasons but this is for you to decide. Imagine you are a child now and you really want to go to the school residential. When you were younger did you get a chance to go on a trip overnight? What would you want to do? Now that your child is going, do you want them to take the chance to?Please, please, please think carefully and responsibly. I hope this persuades you to allow me to attend my school residential for 3 nights without you.

Yours faithfully,

Maryam

Readers! Whoever wants to take inspiration from this, please feel free to do so. I hope this helps you to get your parents to maybe even get you a hamster! I don’t know. But anyway, if you found this letter helpful, be sure to give me some feedback. 20170817_164049.jpg

My Trip to Chester Zoo

In this holiday, I travelled to Chester and I visited a zoo.

First, we got on a train called the Monorail and  it was very fun. Next, we went to see some animals and we saw three black rhinos and they were eating some straws. After we saw the black rhinos, we passed by a colony of  penguins. Suddenly, from up above in the sky, something plopped on my head! When we looked up, we say a flock of birds and we knew it was them! (Mummy thought it was the penguins, but it was actually the birds)

Finally, after a long walk around the zoo, we walked over to an island and watched the a sun bear and a cub who were being fed their lunch.

But we didn’t see the Samaritan tigers because the zoo was nearly closed. The best thing I saw was the sun bears because the baby was cute. My other best thing was seeing the different monkeys because I like bananas and they like bananas. Next time in the holidays, I would like to stay at home and go to the park.

Milker Soldier Hero

Hello again!

Today I will be talking about the two world wars: World War One and World War Two. However, this has a unique twist to them…..

I have been learning about the wars in school and my teacher ended up talking about her grandfather who was in the war. He was in the First World War and sadly died just before the Second World War. Before he signed up to fight in the war, he was a milker at a farm. That farm was actually Stepney Green Farm which is still there today. He would milk the cows by taking milk from them and pour it into a massive urn. The urn looked like a big boiler [I was able to see it in a picture, which my teacher brought in to school] but instead of hot water, it was filled with milk. Along the streets, people waited for him to deliver their milk and pour it into their glass bottles. That was before the war.

When he was in the war he didn’t only earn medals but he lived a part of his life away from home and lived in trenches which were infested with rats, very dirty and riddled with disease. Thankfully, the soldiers’ pet dogs chased the rats and sometimes ended up eating them too.

Anyway, the milker soldier was a very brave man and survived the war very well. Now, you might be wondering why the war happened. I’m going to give you a quick flashback as to why happened. In 1914 it started when the heir to the Austrian-Hungarian throne was assassinated by a man from Serbia. The heir’s name was [Archduke] Franz Ferdinand. The man from Serbia wanted justice for his country and therefore killed the heir to the throne. This created war leading to countries such as Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Hungary, France and even USA going to war with and against each other. Great Britain, along with France, USA won in the end [woohoo to us!] and war was over. Or was it?

Unfortunately, World War One led to World War Two for a completely different reason mainly involving a certain person, who lived in Germany, named Adolf Hitler. This was all partly due to Germany’s money loss and because Hitler went to Poland to make war but was told not to…….more on that another time!

Back to the milker soldier….He obviously returned home and had his family to look forward to. A few years later, with his wife expecting their youngest son (just happens to be my teacher’s father), he fell ill and died. This story inspired me as not many soldiers survived and my teacher is actually a grand-daughter of a surviving soldier of the First World War.

That’s all from me today but you will hear more. Bye!

Maryam

PS: Thanks to my teacher for allowing me to share this story about your grandfather.
