Review of the Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz was originally written by L. Frank Baum. It has become a classic children’s book which is loved by adults and children alike.

This book is about a girl called Dorothy who was out of her home when there was a tornado. She hits her head and falls into a dream that sends her to the magical land of Oz. There, she meets Glinda [a good witch] and the Munchkins. After she had a bit of fun, she realises she needs to go home. So Dorothy goes on a quest to find the great Wizard of Oz. To get to her home, Kansas, she must seek his help.

I think it’s good movie and it has a very imaginative storyline. If there was more to it, the story would probably be a bit too much and spoil the story. In the movie, the first scene is in black and white. All the rest is in colour. This  is a good effect because it shows reality and dream.

fileThe most famous song in this movie is ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’. Dorothy sings it when she is feeling down and wants something a bit exciting in her life. The animals/men she meets have songs as well.

‘If I had a brain’, ‘If I had the nerve’ and ‘If I had a heart’ are some songs that the Tin man, The Scarecrow and The Lion sing about what they want from the Wizard of Oz. People like these songs because they have movement and a bright atmosphere.

I can’t really pick out a big negative because overall it’s a good story and is possibly perfect  as it has actions, sadness and excitement all in one! My rating is 9/10.

Thank you for reading this and that’s the end of  my review.

Why should you play with lego?

I am writing this blog because I want to persuade you to play with lego. First of all, lego is a fun toy to play with. You can buy lego from the Lego shop, Westfield, Disney and they come with instructions. You can buy odd lego with any pieces and make anything you want. If  you know that your lego will break because it’s wobbly, then keep your instructions and you can make it again. Inside your lego box, there are spare lego pieces if you lose some of them.

Lego teaches you to follow instructfileions because every time I get lego, I copy the instructions. Sometimes you feel like giving up but no matter what, you still have to keep trying. When I was making an avengers set, it took me the whole day and night but I still didn’t give up. When I finished, I felt exhausted and happy as well.

The reason why I got into lego is because I like making things. My favourite lego is avengers. You can also order lego from the internet. You can make cars, animals, men, women and things that you can open and close. You can buy avengers lego, ninjago lego, and last of all lego friends.

Why you shouldn’t cut down trees!

I am going to tell you why you shouldn’t cut trees because people are cutting down too many trees!

Firstly, cutting down trees is bad. Also if you cut down trees, there will be bad air because inside them there are carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide and other gases are taken by the trees and if it mixes with the good air, it will become bad for the people. Trees also release oxygen and we need oxygen to breathe in. Secondly, the air is going to be dirty and the environment is going to be worse and the water will be mixed up with the dirty air. Also many animals will become extinct because they need the trees to survive.

You can also use trees to climb and GoApe!

Everyone  will get ill and global warming will happen, then many people might die. I predict that maybe they have cut over 1,500 trees or may be more. We need your help to save the environment  so everything will be back to normal. And I mean it, please can you help us!

If you help us you will  be able to breath properly and you won’t get ill. If you don’t want to die, don’t cut trees! However, global warming makes you very hot  and you want to get  hot and sweaty every day, do you?

Finally, if we can have our environment nice to breath in, we will be able to breathe in good air and  we will be able to stay  healthy because there will be no bad air. Search more on google why you shouldn’t cut down trees.

Preparing for SATs!

I am going to talk about my time at Year 6 and preparation for SATs. I have been getting a lot of homework keeping me very busy. Subjects that I will have to study hard are English [reading & writing], grammar, punctuation & spellings, and maths. My favourite subject has actually become arithmetic as I didn’t like maths before! I am still better at English though (I think).

If you want to do well in SATs you need to do bit of revising and you need to make sure you finish your homework regularly. (I don’t think your teacher would be too happy if you didn’t do any of your homework!) In the Easter holidays, just a few weeks before the SATs most schools have Easter booster. All the teachers from Year 6 come and help us with the things we are struggling on and what we need to get good at while we are on our way to doing the SATs. The teachers told me it’s a very fun few sessions and every year everyone actually loves it. I can see why as only the Year 6 have the entire playground to themselves and that is good news for people who like playing football and having more space for games because normally everyone has to  share the playground!

Anyway, you will need to get organised and get good at the subjects you are doing. The way to do this is to make sure you listen to what your teacher says and use all the time you have. It’s not just about the marks you get but it’s also about what you have learnt at school and how you have improved from when you did the SATs in Year 2. It would also prepare you for secondary school where things will be a lot harder and you may need to know the things that you will have learnt for the SATs. Like when you are doing a maths problem and you have to add a few numbers up to do the question. In arithmetic, it makes you practice a lot on adding and subtracting.

Back to getting organised. Don’t leave your homework lying around your room and make sure you have a timetable so you can get it done. I normally keep everything either in my bag or in a box where I have a few extra things I will need to get me a few marks up. The other thing to do is to do a little bit of each subject everyday rather than loading it all on yourself in one go. For example, do a bit of reading, a bit of grammar and a bit of maths!

After all this, you do get a big, long break. It would be nearly the summer holidays and we would be taking down the things on the walls and going out to parks and there is of course the school residential to look forward to!

Yes, year 6 is is a lot about exams but it’s about having fun and making the most of your primary school. Go on, have fun and work hard!2018-08-11 19.11.12.jpg

About the Avengers

There are many avengers and some are called Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Antman and the Wasp. Also there is Thor and Captain America. The marvel comics have the avengers in them and they are superheroes. I am writing about this blog  because I love avengers.

I am going to write about two avengers and they are my favourite.

Iron Man

Iron Man is an American and he is very rich. He is also called Tony Stark. He was kidnapped and had a chest injury. He didn’t build a weapon and he built a powered suit of armour to save his life. Did you know Iron Man has two hearts?

Captain America

Captain America is actually the man called Steve Rogers, a skinny and weak man. But he took a  serum in a machine so he could make America win world war II. Captain Rogers became Captain America after that. He has a shield so he could block and defend.

Avengers try to fight powerful enemies. Some of the enemies’ names are Thanos and Red Skull. If you search for more information about avengers you will have a lot of fun.

I Have a Dream

This is my dream speech for the future.

I have a dream one day different people around the world will have oak trees in their gardens reminding them of their strong bonds of brotherhood.

I have a dream for countries and cities to smell of flowers and not. of tobacco, petrol and gas.

I have a dream that every citizen will play the drums in tune and respect each other’s rights.

I have a dream for children and adults alike to experience the taste of a fresh and juicy apple so that no one gets hungry.

I have a dream that materials of clothing and blankets will be soft and comfortable for every person who is homeless.

With thanks to Yusuf who shared and taught about dreams and Martin Luther King for inspiration. You can watch his speech here:

Exploring King Richard III

I am pretending to dig using a mini spade like an archaeologist

During the Christmas holiday, I travelled with my family to Leicester and visited King Richard III Centre. We travelled by car and we went on the motor way. On the way, we got off at a  service station and we had breakfast.

When we got to Leicester, we saw lots of shops near the centre. It took 2 hours to get to Leicester and I felt very cold when we got there.

King Rickard III was the king of England from 1483 to 1485. The bit that was really interesting was that he had a really big family as he had 13 brothers and sisters. He was buried in a church and archaeologists dug him up and found him after 500 years! He also died in a battle in 1485 fighting King Henry VII.

I know other facts, so if you want to know more about King Richard III, please ask me.
